Pyramix v7.0 Tips
Pyramix v7.0 Media Manager and Library recommendations and changed behaviors
The Database Location path is set under Settings>Application>Location>Default Database Location.
Otherwise the database path will be C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application
Data\Merging Technologies\Pyramix
For better performance Merging strongly recommends that you move the Database location on your
fastest system Drive. SATA2 - 7200 rpm Disks are recommended and not necessarily C:\OS default
drive (as a drive with less activity and more speed should be performing better)
Save:
V7.0 will speed up your Save times if Saves are done on a performing Disk (e.g. SATA2 7200
rpm). Saving on old Disks (e.g. IDE) or if saving on the OS Disk itself (often very busy with
other tasks) could slowdown your Saves times.
A registry is available to get back to v6.2 Saving mode. This will actually dictate whether or
not the libraries are saved in 7.0 format (applies only to the .pml within the .pmx).
1. Launch regedt32 from Windows “Run”
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Merging Technologies\Pyramix\Libraries
3. Create a DWord (32bit) Key and name it SavePMXLibrariesAsDBLibrary
4. If Key value is set to 1 or not present: will actually apply the actual 7.0 Save
5. If Key value is set to 0: libraries in the 7.0 PMX (.pml only) are saved in v6.2
mode
However, you must be aware of the following drawbacks in v6.2 mode:
When opening the “modified”-style pmx, the pml embedded will be reconverted. This
can lead to some extra time spend within opening.
Depending on your project type and size, “modified”-style save can become slower
that “standard”-style v7 save.
Merging recommends that your Disk have the indexing disabled and that you make sure that the
Power Management is set accordingly for better performance.
Disable File Indexing (XP + Vista + 7):
1. Open “My computer”
2. Right click on each drive and select “Properties” from dropdown menu
3. Un-Check the indexing check box
Verify the Power Management:
Go under Windows Control Panel and open Power options
XP Users: Set “Power Scheme” to “Always On” and set Turn off Hard disks to “Never”
and System Standby to “Never”
MassCore users Under Vista & 7: Power plan should be “RTX – recommended”
Native Users: Make sure you select the “High Performance” power plan
For ultimate performance Merging recommends that you (not mandatory)
Set your Antivirus to off while running Pyramix
Set Windows Automatic-Update to “notify me”
Avoid active internet connection while running Pyramix
Keeping Mounted Folders when closing and restarting Pyramix can speed up your workflow: Set
option under All Settings>Application>General> “Mount all Media folders that were Mounted at
previous Application Exit”
You can clear the History of the Media Manager under the Media Manager>Media Folder menu
Merging recommends Pyramix users save their project on a Disk were no OS resides for better
performances (C:\ not recommended).
Since Pyramix 7, the Composition Library is not longer present. We’ve made the decision to do so to
preserve editing interactivity.
We recommend 2 workflows to workaround this:
A) Toggle the Select Used Media view to list the media by location, based on timeline
selection. You can search and drag & drop from this window back into the timeline. You can
also save the Select Used Media content to a Library that can be re-opened as a library.
B) Use the EDL view since it has been improved in Pyramix 7 and it should be functional and
reliable.
Default library: The default library should be present but will be empty by default, until you add
something to it
Global Libraries – Default Library: The global library should appear empty by default. If there’s a
Default Library in it, it could come from the last closed session.
